Welcome to Schools Beyond Screens - APS Atlanta
Teachers over Big Tech.
Though the APS Board recently passed a Screen Time Policy, there is still room for improvement. We urge APS to take bold action on the growing crisis of excessive screen time in our schools. Read our statement on the Screen Time policy approval.
Let kids think. Pause AI in schools.
Rather than rushing to adopt any untested technology, we urge district leadership to take the time needed to thoroughly evaluate how these tools affect student privacy, mental health, and long-term learning.
About Us
Schools Beyond Screens - APS Atlanta is an all-volunteer community of parents, caregivers, and teachers. Many of us have been working together since early May 2026 to advocate for healthier technology use and screen time limitations within our schools. More than 300 members are calling on APS for change.
Our efforts include creating public tech surveys, creating petitions, giving public comments at board meetings, speaking with the media, communicating directly with Board members and APS administrators through emails, texts, and conversations, submitting feedback through Let's Talk, and sharing information, templates, and calls to action across our school communities, and so much more.
We invite you to participate in the way that best works for you. Every effort helps strengthen our collective voice. Thank you for being here!
Why This Matters:
Research increasingly raises concerns about excessive or poorly designed technology use in educational settings, including effects on attention, learning, memory, social interaction, and student development.
At the same time, research supports the value of handwriting, print-based reading, discussion, direct human interaction, and other active, multisensory approaches to learning.
Our goal isn’t to eliminate technology from schools. It’s to ensure that technology serves education - not the other way around.
