Schools Beyond Screens Las Virgenes invited all LVUSD Board candidates to complete our questionnaire regarding technology use in schools. As of this publication, candidate Sandra Pope has not submitted a response. To help voters understand her position in the meantime, we have summarized the views she has expressed publicly.

In recent statements to The Acorn, Pope described herself as “not at all” skeptical of digital learning and said it would be “absolutely criminal” for educators not to address technology in schools. She has emphasized preparing students to evaluate online information critically and has proposed developing a K–12 digital-safety curriculum with input from school districts, law enforcement, and technology experts. 

In a separate letter to the editor, Pope acknowledged that excessive screen use can interfere with learning, particularly when its purpose or content is not monitored. However, she argued that discussions about screen time should distinguish between home and classroom use, expressed confidence in LVUSD’s technology committee and educators, and stated that the district “cannot afford to pause” the inclusion of technology in classrooms.

Based on these public statements, Pope appears to favor the continued integration of technology into instruction. She has not publicly indicated support for the specific screen-time limits, technology pauses, or other safeguards advocated by Schools Beyond Screens Las Virgenes.
