Page: Policy Proposals

AI Policy

The AI proposal establishes a five-year pause on district-approved student use of generative AI, while allowing AI literacy education, legally required accommodations, and narrowly defined curriculum exceptions. It also limits AI from replacing student-facing school staff and requires greater School Board oversight of future AI contracts.

Technology Policy

The document proposes a comprehensive overhaul of how Beaverton School District (BSD) uses screens, digital learning tools, student devices, and generative AI. Its central principle is that technology should support effective, teacher-led instruction rather than replace human interaction, hands-on learning, or established teaching practices.

It would establish specific limits on screen time, restrict student access to websites through an approved “allow list,” pause student-facing generative AI for five years, strengthen parent opt-out rights, and require annual technology audits and public reporting.
