Dear Chair Harris and Members of the ACPS Board:
I am the parent of a child at [SCHOOL] and I am writing to ask you to fundamentally reconsider the role of technology in our classrooms.
Technology can have appropriate uses in education, but its use should be purposeful, limited and supported by robust evidence that it improves student learning. I believe that ACPS has strayed from these principles.
We know that excessive use of screens and digital technology harms children. Schools around the country - including our neighbors in Fairfax, Arlington and Washington, D.C. - have recognized this and are curbing tech use in schools.
I urge the board to establish a plan to restore balance and protect ACPS kids. I ask that the board do so transparently and provide families with an opportunity to participate in these crucial policy decisions.
Thank you for your consideration. I would appreciate a response outlining how the school board plans to address these concerns.
Regards,
